So it all begins...

Okay...

I accepted a job with the Kativik School Board (KSB for short) for the 2010-2011 year. The town that I have gotten assigned to is called Puvirnituq (Population of about 1,500) on the Western Coast of Northern Quebec. On the Hudson's Bay.  I am going to be teaching the IPL program, which is project oriented rather than the usual stuff we give kids in the schools. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This town is part of the Nunavik Territory, which comprises everything from the North of the 55th Parallel in Quebec and is populated mostly by Inuit people. (Not Eskimos. Seriously. Not cool to call them that) A single person is an Inuk and the people themselves are the Inuit.

Sorry for the primer, but when I have told people where I am going, they get this look on their face like I have mentioned a place that exists solely in a Tolkien book or something like that.

So yeah, this is one of those year long travel blogs. I will talk about the town, my teaching, and random oddities that will happen in my life. Because they will. I have spent enough time in the North that I know anything and everything can go down and it will.

I will simply chronicle it all so that you can either go "WTF?" or "Jeebus!" or "Freaking Wicked" or something.

So I hope it's funny and interesting and useful and so on...and so on...

I really apologize if this sounds like such a talking head beginning. I am still really tired from running around all over the place, filling my head with pedagogy, dodging flies and watching everything from a funky rock and roller, a fiddler, an old time country group, a beatboxer and a beautiful jazzy Inuk singer all in the same night and then going to the place that has the end of the road. Literally.

I swear that more will be coherent. Siriusly.
